The Ecuadorian Amazon Rainforest is a must-to-visit place for amateur and professional birdwatchers and nature lovers. Amazon Parrot

The Amazon parrot is one of the most symbolic birds of the Amazonia. Most Amazon parrots are green with yellow face and accenting color which can be quite vivid depending on the species. They are very sociable and have a remarkable skill to mimic some human sounds and speech.

Scarlet Macaw

The scarlet macaw rainbow-colored feathers and its loud squawk are just distinctive. They are found usually on the wet lowland forest of the Amazonia flying in small flocks. This bird is now classified as endangered species mainly because of its popularity in the pet trade market.

Hoatzin

The hoatzin is one of the weirdest and most fascinating birds of the Amazon. It has a long neck and a small head, a peak fan-shaped upright and wing claws –a particular feature that gives it a prehistoric look—.

The hoatzin feed with fruits and leaves and it has a digestive system similar to cows and other ruminants, another peculiarity of this animal that explains why it is commonly known as stinky bird.

White-Throated Toucan

The White-throated toucan is also known as red-billed toucan and it is one of the most common species of toucans you can find in Ecuador. They are found throughout the Amazon lowland forests nesting in the tree holes.

Harpy Eagle

The Harpy Eagles are considered the largest and most powerful eagles of the World. Although it is not so common to see as other bird species we have included on this list since this one of the most emblematic birds and predators of the Amazon. The Harpy Eagle has a distinctive look, feathers atop its head, legs that can be as thick as a wrist of a chlild and black and curved talons whcih are larger than grizzly bear claws measuring over 13 cm long.
